Uber & Lyft Accident Attorney in Champaign
Over 20 Years of Experience for Complex Rideshare Injury Claims
An Uber or Lyft collision can involve several insurance policies, and the coverage available often depends on the rideshare driver’s app status. We examine whether the driver was waiting for a request, had accepted a ride, or was transporting a passenger to identify the parties and policies that may apply.
Attorney Jeffrey Cisco brings more than 20 years of legal experience to injury claims throughout Central Illinois. Whether you were a passenger, another motorist, a pedestrian, or a cyclist, we can evaluate your injuries, medical expenses, lost income, property damage, and available evidence.

Who Can Bring a Rideshare Injury Claim?
Passenger injury claims aren’t limited to crashes caused by an Uber or Lyft driver. A passenger may have a claim when another motorist caused the collision. Injured drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists may also have claims against one or more responsible parties.
A rideshare collision may involve:
- The Uber or Lyft driver
- Another driver or vehicle owner
- A rideshare company, depending on the facts and applicable law
- Personal, commercial, or rideshare insurers
- Another party whose conduct contributed to the crash
These collisions can cause traumatic brain injuries, spinal injuries, fractures, soft-tissue injuries, and fatal injuries. We also represent families pursuing wrongful death claims after fatal crashes. You work directly with Jeffrey Cisco from the initial consultation through the resolution of your case.
How Illinois Rideshare Insurance Changes with App Status
The Illinois Transportation Network Providers Act sets different insurance requirements based on the driver’s relationship to the app. Actual coverage remains subject to the statute, policy language, and circumstances of the collision.
The primary coverage periods include:
- App Off: The driver’s personal auto policy may be the starting point when the driver isn’t logged into the platform.
- Logged In and Waiting: Illinois law provides statutory minimums of $50,000 per person, $100,000 per incident, and $25,000 for property damage while a driver is available but hasn’t accepted a request.
- Ride Accepted: From acceptance until the ride ends, Illinois law requires $1 million in primary liability coverage for death, personal injury, and property damage.
- Passenger Transport: Statutory uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage may apply when an at-fault driver lacks sufficient insurance.
Trip receipts, screenshots, driver information, and app notifications can help establish the relevant coverage period. We also review police reports, photographs, witness accounts, medical records, vehicle damage, and insurance documents when assessing a claim.
